Incredible Years is a research-based clinical practice model that incorporates social learning theory as well as behavior modification through programs designed for parents, teachers, and children.  Family Solutions has therapists trained in implementing each of these modules.  These programs have been effective in reducing children's aggression and behavior problems and increasing social competence at home and at school.

Evidence shows that Incredible Years programs have turned around the behaviors of up to 80 percent of the children of participating parents and teachers. If left unchecked these behaviors would mean those children are at greater risk in adulthood of unemployment, mental health problems, substance abuse, early pregnancy/early fatherhood, criminal offending, multiple arrests and imprisonment, higher rates of domestic violence and shortened life expectancy.

Incredible Years training programs give parents and teachers strategies to manage behaviors such as aggressiveness, ongoing tantrums, and acting out behaviors such as swearing, whining, yelling, hitting and kicking, and refusing to follow rules.  Through using a range of strategies, parents and teachers help children regulate their emotions and improve their social skills so that they can get along better with peers and adults, and do better academically. It can also mean a more enjoyable family life.

The child-focused training program of Incredible Years uses the Dinosaur Social Skills and Problem Solving curriculum.  It focuses on strengthening children’s social, emotional and academic competencies such as understanding and communicating feelings, using effective problem solving strategies, managing anger, practicing friendship and conversational skills, as well as how to use appropriate classroom behaviors.

Our therapists have offered this group treatment program to children who have behavior challenges at home and school.  We have also provided training groups to parents and teachers in the Incredible Years curriculum.
