TF-CBT is a type of treatment that can help children and their parents or caretakers deal with the negative impact of traumatic events such as witnessing violence, experiencing sexual or physical abuse, an unexpected death, or a natural disaster. 

TF-CBT teaches children and their caretakers how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected.  Understanding the connections offers children new ways to cope with problems and helps caretakers in supporting their children.

The focus of TF-CBT is to help children and families learn coping strategies to deal with their reactions to trauma, and to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, or action-out behavior.

TF-CBT usually lasts between 12 and 18 weekly sessions.  You and the therapist will work out a schedule that works best for you.  Sessions may include individual sessions for child, individual sessions for parents, and joint sessions with parent and child.
